The Family Strengthening is a community-based childcare development programme.
The Family Strengthening is a community-based childcare development programme working directly with families and communities. The aim of the Family Strengthening Programme is to prevent child abandonment (separation of children from their families of origin) anchored on the following:
Purpose
Support families and communities to develop capacity to effectively protect and care for their children, so that children are enabled to grow in a caring family environment.
Principles
The child’s natural family is the best place to grow in.
The child’s caregiver is responsible for the child’s development.
Communities are a direct source of support for vulnerable children & their families.
The Family Strengthening works in collaboration with local leadership, government agencies and other community-based organizations and networks.
Children who have lost or are at risk of losing parental care, children whose basic needs are being neglected or are abused because their caregivers lack the capacity to adequately care for them because of the following:
Child/sibling headed homes
Aged and incapacitated grandparent
Chronically ill
Disabled
